Sophomore Football Stops Grant

The sophomore football team got back to its winning ways Saturday with a 17-14 victory at Grant. Stephen Smith struck first with a long TD run, but the Bulldogs fought back tooth and nail. Josh Anttila would give the Sequoits a seven point lead when he plunged into the end zone from one yard out. George Gonzalez extended the lead to 10 with a 37 yard field goal. In the 4th quarter the Bulldogs where able to cut the lead to 3 and stop the Sequoits on their next possession. Matt Wilfert punted the ball deep into Bulldog territory and Smith and Jake Hill covered the punt returner near his own ten yard line. Grant was able to drive momentarily connecting on a couple of plays downfield. However, Zach Freundt laid a punishing hit on the Grant QB and two plays later intercepted a pass to seal the deal. The Sequoits improve to 3-1-1 (1-1 in division) and will prepare to face Vernon Hills on homecoming Friday night.
