Central Advances to Regional Final

It was the second meeting in a week as Central boys soccer faced off against conference rivals Danville. A new look Central team managed to pull off a very convincing 4-1 victory to advance to Saturday's Regional final match.
Central switched players around to steady up the defense and allow the team to play a more aggressive attacking game. Central started with high energy and did not allow the Danville players to settle on the ball. Cameron Fitzgerald typified the Central work rate as he tirelessly chased down every ball. Micah Walker and Julio Zarco started in the center of the park and both players linked up with ease throughout the game. Captain Nathan Chisholm partnered fellow senior Atti Kurthy at the back and nothing was phasing the pair as they stayed composed throughout the game and did not allow any easy chances. The first goal of the game came midway through the first half as Julio Zarco played a nice ball forward in the air to substitute Jesus Parales who showed a quality first tough to send senior forward Clint Miller one on one with the goal keeper. Miller showed amazing composure and slotted the ball with confidence into the bottom left hand corner. Central continued to press forward and had several opportunities to add to their lead all off the crossing off the impressive Marc Martindale. The half ended 1-0 but the score could have been more.
The second half could not have started any better for the Central team. From the kick off, Central made 15 consecutive pases within 25 seconds and Micah Walker finished off the move with a fierce 25 yards strike that flew into the top corner of the goal. Central added a third 10 minutes later from the penalty spot as Juan Portillo was brought down by the Danville goal keeper and Nathan Chisholm slotted the ball home from the spot. Central could have added more goals again from the dangerous balls sent in by Martindale but the Danville defense somehow managed to keep the ball out of the net. Danville did mange a consolation goal as Joe Daniels and the Central defense did not communicate as a harmless ball found the corner of the Central goal. Cameron Fitzgerald added Central's fourth goal of the game as he got on the end of a Clint Miller's flick and riffled the ball home from 12 yards out. Central will now face the winner of Wednesday's game between Centennial vs Urbana. The regional final match will be on Saturday at 1 pm at Urbana High School.
