Rivalry Week: Central vs. Centennial
In the freshman installment of the Champaign Central vs. Champaign Centennial rivalry the Centennial Chargers out lasted the Central Maroons. In another wet contest for the Maroons, their fourth game of such conditions, the offense sputtered trying to acclimate to the poor field conditions. The Maroons received the ball to start the game, ran three plays and then had to punt. On the punt a bad snap sent the football into the Maroons end zone and the ball was recovered by the Chargers for their first touchdown making the score 6-0. The Maroons had success on offense but costly penalties and turnovers kept them from scoring. The Chargers second touchdown came on another punt attempt when the Maroons fumbled the snap and the Chargers recovered the ball on the Maroon 2-yard line. The Chargers quickly punched it in the end zone and ran a successful 2-point conversion for a 14-0 half time lead. This would be the only touchdown the Maroon defense would allow.
In the second half the Maroons adjusted well to the conditions and the Chargers. The offense was clicking and moving the ball when Michael Carter finally broke the scoring drought for the Maroons, their first touchdown in 7 quarters. The 2-point conversion failed for the Maroons making the score 14-6 which is were the score would remain in the end.
