Game Summary:
MAROONS 2
Danville 2

Soccer Ties Danville

The Central Boys' soccer team had an unusual game Monday night against Danville, not only was this the their senior night but also a warm up game for next week's regional semi final match up.
Danville started the brighter of the two teams and looked dangerous up top with their speed but the Central team made up of the entire senior class withstood the early pressure. Mid way through the first half Micah walker took over the game with an impressive display, Walker was working hard on both ends of the field and looked the most likely to open the scoring. Sophomore Julio Zarco also looked dangerous and back to his his best and the two combined for the opening goal of the game. Zarco received the ball out wide, cut in and beat two defenders and hit a dangerous shot to the near post that was saved by the Danville goal keeper but Walker was there to slam the rebound home from 12 yards out. Central continued to press and Clint Miller had a couple of half chances and would have usually ended up in the back of the net but for some impressive goal keeping from the Danville number 1. Jeeyan Rostam Abadi joined in the attack and hit a whistling shot from 30 yards out that curled and dipped and caused the the goal keeper to parry the ball out for a corner. Despite many more chances, the score remained 1-0 at the half.
The second half started with Danville flying around the ball and putting the Central players under a lot more pressure but Atti Kurthy and Marc Martindale remained calm and did not allow anything through early. 15 minutes into the second half Danville stunned the only looking crowd as they counter attacked down the right hand side and hit a shot that found the bottom corner to tie the game against the run of play. Central looked a little rattled and conceded another goal just 5 minutes later when Marc Martindale's header back to goal keeper Tanner Goslin allowed the Danville forward to get there first and poke the ball home. Central lead by senior and captain Nathan Chisholm drove forward and dominated the rest of the game. Juan Portillo and Clint Miller looked dangerous every time they got the ball but its was junior Micah Walker and sophomore Julio Zarco who looked the most threatening. Central created several fantastic opportunities to score but the final touch was not there. Joe Daniels was thrown on yet again as a forward to add height into the box and provide a target for balls into the area. Marc Martindale's crosses into the box were highly impressive and the Danville defense struggled to cope with them. Finally, Central equalized when Martindale sent in a cross to Daniels who's header found Clint Miller. Miller managed to find Chisholm wide open at the back post and he slotted home to make the game 2-2. The last 10 minutes was an intense affair and Central pummeled the Danville goal. Daniels had a header cleared off the line, Portillo blazed over from 8 yards and Chisholm had a great chance for his second of the game ball the ball went narrowly wide. With 30 seconds to go another Martindale freekick was flicked on by Daniels to a wide open Atti Kurthy who attacked the ball but sent his header wide of the goal from 10 yards out. Despite all the heavy pressure the game finished 2-2.
