Cold And Wet Day Did Not Equal A Good Race Day For The Maroons
This weekend was to be the stepping out party for the Maroons at Detweiller Park, site of the IHSA State Meet which will be one month from this date. The weather played a major factor in the running of the Maroons, even though they ran well, Coach Johnson was expecting a little better performance. "I felt the number of runners got to us" stated Coach Johnson, "there where 343 athletes running in the boys race" and he felt that his guys got caught behind most of the slow runners and did not have a chance to get out and run the race they wanted to run. Top runners for the Maroons in this meet was Kain Shirley with a time of 17:11 followed by another pack of Maroons Goodlad 17:43, Picchietti 17:47, Rowland 17:48. Unfortunate for Dan Coleman, he was knocked down to the ground in the first turn and was unable to finish the race. So now the Maroons must look forward to the next race at Hickory Point Golf course which will be a quad meet against Eisenhower, MacArthur, and Mattoon. This site is where the Big 12 Conference Championship and Sectional meets will be hosted and Coach Johnson feels that might give his Maroons an edge on those meet by running there early.
