Central Unlucky to Win in tough Big 12 game
Central was looking to get back on the winning track after a tough two weeks. Normal West was the opponent on a rescheduled Saturday morning.
Central started the game really well with Micah Walker and Nathan Chisholm connecting well in the midfield and Julio Zarco looked dangerous out wide. The Normal team did not sit back though and showed why they are dangerous as the counter attacked well. Marc Martindale and Atti Kurthy looked as solid as ever and were never rushed. Micah Walker hit the cross bar from 25 yards out with a rifling shot with his left foot and Clint Miller looked certain to score on the rebound but the West goal keeper somehow made a save. Just five minutes later the impressive Walker had another opportunity, this time from 30 yards out but his shot ended up with the same outcome, striking the crossbar. This time Jeeyan Rostam Abadi hit the rebound narrowly wide. Central were in complete control at half time but like so many games this year they were unable to capitalize on their chances.
The second half was very similar to the first but Normal started to settle down and play which made the game very open. Central looked a little nervous of defensive set pieces but Joe Daniels in goal heled steady the ship. The game began to get scrappy towards the end of the game and chance were far and few between until the last five minutes. Marc Martindale was the architect as he sent in some fantastic balls in to the box one of which hit the cross bar. In the last five minutes Joe Daniels was brought out of goal and throw up top to cause havoc in the West back line. In the last minute Martindale sent in a perfect cross for Daniel who got there before the goal keeper but somehow missed the target with his header and despite Central's heavy pressure the game ended in a tie.
