CHICAGO TRIBUNE'S PREVIEW OF CICS-LONGWOOD IN PUBLIC LEAGUE BLUE SOUTH

Public League Blue South

Demoted Julian is ready to roll

Outlook: Julian might be the first Class AA state sectional finalist ever to be moved down from the Public League's Red division to the Blue. The Jaguars had to forfeit all their conference victories, the price for using an ineligible player. Rocky Hill, who led Thornton to a pair of second-place state finishes in the mid-1990s, takes over at Julian after former coach Loren Jackson left to run his own prep school on the South Side. Led by Division I prospect DeAngelo McIntosh, the Jaguars are prohibitive favorites. "This is a new challenge for me," Hill said. "I look forward to coaching in the Public League." CICS Longwood and Fenger should battle it out for second place, and Longwood coach Ben Garrett thinks his team can make some noise in the Class A postseason. "You always have to watch out for Fenger," Garrett said. "(Coach) David Keys does a great job." Brooks returns the bulk of its squad. "Julian coming into the conference gives the league an interesting twist," said Brooks coach Ron Ragsdale. "Playing them will really give everybody else an indication of where they stand."
