Public League Red Central

Hubbard ready to unseat Curie

Outlook: Immediately upon taking the phone call, Calvin Holiday started to campaign. "We should be in your guys' top 25—that's how good this team is going to be," the Hubbard coach said emphatically. Thing is, the top four teams in the Red Central pretty much feel the exact same way. Harper returns all of its starters and has substantial depth. Defending champion Curie lost all of its starters, but a program that's 38-2 in the league in the last four years will have at least the raw talent to contend. And despite losing Chris White (who has transferred to Chicago Vocational), Hope has, well, hope with a talented junior bunch. "This division," Hope coach Gary Tate said, "nobody can predict what's going to happen." Hubbard has the favorite for player-of-the-year honors in point guard Aaron Johnson, and that might be enough in the end to make good on its coach's promise.
