Recap of Lisle's Play in Thanksgiving Tournament
The Lions went 3-2 in the 29th Lisle Thanksgiving Tournament last week with wins over Driscoll, Montini, and Westmont. Lisle dropped a pair to local powers North Lawndale College Prep and Timothy Christian. Lisle opened with an overtime victory over Driscoll, 74-72. Shamon Cherry paced Lisle with 22 pts., while Matt Schmitz and John Shodipo (10 rebs.) added 19 pts. piece. Lisle held Montini to under 20% shooting from the floor as they cruised to 52-29 win in their second game. Cherry led all scorers with 17 pts. Joel Beckman chipped in with 7 pts. Lisle broke the game open in the second stanza outscoring the Broncos 18-4. The Lions lost a heart-breaker, 64-57, to North Lawndale in game three of the tourney. The Phoenix overcame a 30-25 half-time deficit with a strong third quarter. The lead changed hands seven times in the fourth. Cherry led all scorers once again with 21 pts. Matt Schmitz and Josh McLeod contributed 11 pts. apiece. Joel Beckman cleared the glass with eight rebounds while teammate Greg Saul had seven boards. Lisle rebounded from the loss with a 70-51 thumping of Westmont in a sloppily played game as each team had twenty-three turnovers. Shamon Cherry had 17 pts., six assists, and five steals while Matt Schmitz had 15 pts. and four steals. The Lions continued to struggle from the charity stripe connecting on only 48%. Lisle fell 58-43 to tourney champion, Timothy Christian. Schmitz paced the Lions with 13 pts. The hosts turned the ball over twenty-two times and were out-rebounded for the second time in the tourney. The Lions open up Interstate-8 play Friday against the Sandwich Indians.
