Josh Schrank and Tyler Demo will represent Lutheran in the Illinois Elementary School Association State Wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday at the Convocation Center at Northern Illinois University. The IESA has 809 member schools in the state. Wrestling begins 3:30 p.m. Friday and continues 9 a.m. Saturday.
The IESA is one of two major youth wrestling organizations in Illinois, and both are holding their state tournaments in the area this weekend. The Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF) will hold its tournament at the BMO Harris Bank Center in downtown Rockford. 3/26/2013... Full Story

State tournaments aren't just for high school kids. Lutheran qualified its eighth-grade girls basketball team and two junior high wrestlers for state tournaments this weekend.
The girls are going to the Lutheran School Association of Illinois State Basketball Tournament, held every year in the northwest suburbs. A total of 135 Lutheran schools in the state are eligible, with the top 16 teams reaching state for the three-day tournament.
The players, according to a school news release, are: Whitney Card, Olivia Cattage, Kayla Donnell, Ashley Kerestes, Sophie Long, Lauren Severson, Jordyn Turecek, Alex Edmiston and Layla Seaton.

Eleven area schools are represented on the 2012 Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Academic All-State Team, which was recently released.
Lutheran led with 10 players who maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average: Adam Pearson, Austin Barnhart, Brandon Esparza, Grant Osborne, Jake Milbourn, Luke Koehler, Nate Wieting, Sam Earp, Zach Zanello and Zayne Anderson. Rockford Lutheran Freshman Breaks 2A Playoff TD Record

As Mercer County gets set to host Rockford Lutheran in round 2 of the high school football playoffs, they’ll have to defend a new IHSA record holder. Freshman James Robinson set the record Saturday night for most rushing touchdowns scored in a 2a playoff game with 7. A special talent says Rockford Lutheran head coach Bruce Bazsali.
